Featured Pilot John Muir was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, graduated from Virginia Tech. and started working for Huyck Felt Company, a manufacturer of paper machine felts, based in Dayton, Ohio. John was provided with technical training in up-state New York on technical support for felt installations. For eight years John had technical support responsibilities in nine mid-western states for paper manufacturing customer felt installations and operations. John transferred to Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1963, picking up sales and support responsibilities for the eleven western states. In 1968, John joined American Cyanamid, another corporation providing service and support to the paper industry. John was in sales for American Cyanamid for 28 years retiring in 1996.

John has a wife and three grown children, a daughter, and two boys, all living in Oregon. John met his wife Carolyn while both were living in the same apartment complex in Lake Oswego, after John moved to LO in 1963. Carolyn is a 3rd generation Oregonian and graduated form the University of Oregon.
John also provided support for the Lake Oswego Adult Center and is a past board member.
